“You have entered a world. My world. A world in drawing.” These are the opening words of Wasco’s first actual book Het Tuitel Complex (2015). We will welcome Dutchman Wasco, Finn Tommi Musturi and German Anna Haifisch to the stage at the festival. They are all graphic novelists exploring the boundaries of their genre. Wasco, Musturi and Haifisch have each created a world of their own, in which their characters investigate something – Wasco’s Tuitel is looking for possibilities within a framed world full of lines, ink and paper, as does Samuel, one of Musturi’s characters. Samuel keeps plunging from one world into another, page after page. Haifisch is an emerging graphic artist. In Von Spatz, her first graphic novel, a group of artists inhabits a psychiatric hospital; her second novel, The Artist, revolves around a main character who makes brave attempts to get out of bed and ‘do art’. The likes of Walt Disney, Vincent van Gogh and Calimero wander about her technicolor world like brothers, a world that we are free to enter. During their performance, the trio of artists will give you a short tour of their work.
