Together, the songs on June McDoom's debut EP are a collage of almost everything that is important to her. While growing up in a Jamaican family in South Florida, McDoom was introduced to reggae music, which could be heard in every room of her parents' house.
She supplemented that breeding ground with her own deep love for other styles: first folk music and songwriting from the 1960s and 1970s, later also jazz and early soul. With this mix, she brings a new sound within folk music: first with her debut single The City, and now with her debut EP. A record full of self-discovery and self-acceptance, with clear influences from Joan Baez, The Delfonics and Alton Ellis.
