Author
Dutch writer and presenter Wilfried de Jong made his literary debut in 2000 with the short story collection Aal, which was nominated for the Dutch first novel Debutantenprijs, and he has continued to surprise, entertain, and provoke with his literary output.
His new collection, Schwung, tells ten stories set around the world, but weaved together with the theme of music and sound. In the dressing room of a New York club, we meet a sombre trumpet player, while in Rotterdam, a homeless man plays the blues. In Puglia, Italy, Claudia is busy recording the body sounds of tourists, while country singer Ava sings for her comatose husband in Nashville.
Bursting with energy, these intimate stories draw the reader into immaculately imagined worlds with the clear, fresh prose that is De Jong’s hallmark.
